Mercury, NV is a small unincorporated community located in Nye County, Nevada. Situated in the Mojave Desert, it is approximately 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. The town was originally established as a mining camp in the early 1900s, primarily for extracting mercury, hence its name. However, the mining operations ceased in the 1940s, and today, Mercury is mostly known for its proximity to the Nevada National Security Site, a former nuclear testing site. The community is sparsely populated and serves as a base for the employees and contractors working at the site.
